SynMech Satellite Event at FENS 2026

On 11 July 2026, SynMech hosted its FENS Satellite Event, “Synaptic Mechanogenetics: From Mechanical Forces to Network Connectivity”, in Barcelona, bringing together researchers, clinicians, technology developers, and industry representatives to explore the rapidly evolving field of synaptic mechanogenetics. The event provided a unique opportunity to discuss how mechanical forces influence neuronal function and how mechanogenetic approaches may open new avenues for neuroscience research and therapeutic innovation.

The programme featured presentations covering the fundamental principles of mechanogenetics, magnetic stimulation technologies, neuronal mechanosensors, and emerging applications in neurological disorders. Participants gained insights into cutting-edge methodologies ranging from magnetic nanoparticle-based approaches and transcranial magnetic stimulation to advanced in vitro and preclinical models.

A particular highlight of the day was the participation of internationally renowned speakers, including Prof. Matthew Walker (University College London) and Prof. Yukiko Goda (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology), who shared their latest research on epilepsy and synaptic plasticity.

The event also fostered interdisciplinary dialogue through an engaging roundtable discussion focused on the future challenges, opportunities, and societal acceptance of mechanogenetics.
