Synaptic Mechanogenetics a FENS Satellite Event
FENS Satellite Event: Synaptic Mechanogenetics – From Mechanical Forces to Network Connectivity
Organised by the SynMech Consortium – Coordinator: University of Trieste (UniTs)
Event Code: SE14
We are pleased to announce that the SynMech ERC Pathfinder Consortium will host the FENS 2026 Satellite Event “Synaptic Mechanogenetics: From Mechanical Forces to Network Connectivity” on 11 July 2026 in Barcelona.
This one‑day meeting will explore how mechanical forces shape synaptic function, plasticity, and the organization of neural circuits. Bringing together perspectives from genetics, materials science, biophysics, and in vivo neuroscience, the event will highlight how mechanosensitive pathways can be harnessed to understand and regulate neural communication across spatial scales—from individual synapses to complex networks.
The scientific program will include invited talks, focused discussion sessions, and a round‑table debate aimed at integrating mechanogenetic concepts with research on brain function and dysfunction, including circuit-level alterations in neurological disease models. Special attention will be given to recent advances and technical challenges in magnetomechanical approaches for probing and manipulating neural connectivity.
To ensure an engaging and interactive environment, participation is limited to 50 attendees.
